SEQ Business Golf Group helping deaf children listen and speak

SEQ Business Golf Group (through Sarley Group) is proud to announce Hear and Say as its Community Partner.

This new relationship includes a variety of financial and non-financial support activities and involves all the businesses under the Sarley Group banner (including SEQBGG).

SEQBGG will contribute funds from each of the nine (9) Business Golf Group events held annually and provide Hear and Say with corporate entertainment opportunities. Additional funds and non-financial support will be provided through Arctic Stone and Sarley’s highly regarded marketing agency.

“We are very excited about our new relationship with Hear and Say. This is an opportunity to build a strong partnership with a world class centre supporting our communities most precious.”  Said Scott Lyons, Director of Sarley Group (and SEQBGG).

“Although we have a long and proud history in business, we are just starting out in Qld. By joining forces with Hear and Say, we can help support those young children who are just starting out on their own life journey.”

With three children under 6 years, Scott also confirmed there was a personal reason for supporting Hear and Say,  “Our daughter has some minor issues with her ears and hearing but I would like to think a group like Hear and Say would be there if we needed help and support in the future.”

The first fundraising activity will be the upcoming SEQBGG Christmas event at The Glades Golf Club on Dec 9. Those keen golfers within the business community are encouraged to get along and by doing so support a very worthy cause.

“Hear and Say is delighted to partner with Sarley Group and SEQBGG. We support over 500 children and their families in QLD and rely predominately on funds raised through partnerships like this one” said Karen Descovich, Events Manager from Hear and Say.

“Relationships like this enable us to continue our life changing early intervention services for deaf and hearing impaired children and we are so grateful” she said.

Business Golf Groups is about bringing like-minded business people together to develop new relationships and strengthen existing ones. With over 8 successful years of experience in the NSW Hunter Valley, Melbourne and Sydney; SEQ is the newest member of the Business Golf network.

“Through our national network of corporate members, we have an opportunity to educate and promote the wonderful work being done by everyone at Hear and Say.” Said Scott.

If you want to find our more or register for the upcoming SEQBGG event at The Glades, please contact Scott Lyons on 0421 618 544 or email info@sarley.com.au.

Tips from the Pro – October

It was great to meet a few of you during the launch at Colonial Golf Club. I am looking forward to meeting many more of you at upcoming SEQBGG events.

The shot we were executing in front of the clubhouse was a 50 metre wedge; one that can certainly be a challenge for many!  When I played regularly on the LPGA Tour, I played in pro-ams every week and I often told my playing partners that we’d be better off laying back to the 100 so they could hit a fuller shot…

The ‘partial’ wedges require good technique. I have found that they can best be managed with a system that uses ‘levers’ at 9 o’clock and 10:30 on the dial. You can take the guess work out of the equation when you lock in the feel at certain positions on the backswing. Of course you will need practice to determine your distances, but having something to work on makes the game quite enjoyable!

SPECIAL OFFER FOR SEQBGG MEMBERS

I am a huge advocate of the short game and I’m continually showing my students a system that is proven to work. I would love to help you with your golf swings and I would like to offer you a chance to learn a bit more about the game.

Book a lesson by phoning 0466 588 243 and mention that you played at Colonial or you are a member of the SEQBGG. You will receive a free short game lesson with one paid private lesson…basically a $50 saving

This will be available only until the 15th of November, 2011.

Until I see you again, keep it on the short grass!

Cheers,
Nancy

SEQBGG Results :: The Colonial

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the launch of SEQ Business Golf Group. The weather was perfect and the feedback overwhelmingly positive.

There was no shortage of interesting shots throughout the day, especially during the “Short Game Challenge”. Everyone played in the right spirit and there were many new business relationships formed based on the comments received.

A few people looked on as they were treated to a golfing exhibition of sorts during the pre-game Challenge. Yours trully (not pictured) made a splash with two shots ending at the bottom of the lake.

Congratulationsto the team of Ross Paterson, Lex Hayes, Dennis McDermott & Brendan McKinna who were our winners for the day.

The runners upwas the team of Ian Crossley, Mick McGuiness, Matt Mahoney and Greg Scott.

Congratulations to our other winners:

  • 4th Hole Nearest the Pin:  Gene Waterman
  • 7th Hole Nearest the Pin:  Mike Caladine
  • 12th Hole Nearest the Pin:  Jamie Klerch

Tips from the Pro – August

When it comes to ‘athletic endeavours’, golf doesn’t always get acknowledged for the highly athletic skill that it truly is!  People who don’t play golf may just see us as silly people chasing a little white ball around!  Little do they know, or appreciate for that matter, how many muscles are actually used when swinging from start to finish…

The core muscles in the body control much of the movement throughout the swing.  And, they especially keep the ‘posture’ through the hitting area that is required to strike the ball well.  I often find that when the posture is incorrect, the angles are incorrect and the swing is left to move in whatever direction it likes!

Fundamentally, the set-up is everything you do before you hit the golf ball; one of the biggest elements is the posture.  When I teach, I like to make sure this aspect is  solid and from there it is easier for the body to make the proper motion.

Maybe you are standing up too much or bent over too far?  Is it possible that you are reaching for the ball or over crowding it?  Any of these scenarios will require compensation on your part and make it difficult to generate a consistent swing.

Come and see me for a tune up and I’ll check your fundamentals to see if you are giving yourself every opportunity to make a decent swing at it!

Keep it on the short grass!

Cheers, Nancy Harvey

Tips for the Pro – July

When was the last time you treated yourself to a golf lesson? Too often we read a tip in a golf magazine on one page then turn a few more pages to find another tip which completely contradicts the original pearl of wisdom! Sound familiar?  It can be very confusing!

I’ve often said:  This is the only game I know of that has more teachers than players! The beauty of taking a lesson from a qualified professional is that you can be shown things that you couldn’t otherwise see for yourself.  It is vitally important to find a coach that you can easily communicate with; someone who ‘speaks your language’ and finds a way to help you to help yourself.

Look for a teacher who works with you as an individual without trying to force you into a set swing theory.

Keep it on the short grass!

Cheers, Nancy Harvey.

Where there is golf there is business

To succeed in business – at all levels from executives to the small business owner – you need to network. Some see it as a necessary evil; others see it as the most enjoyable part of their working week. It can take all kinds of shapes from attending a business breakfast; to participating in a trivia evening or even hitting the fairways for a corporate golf event.

If somebody asked you for your new client wishlist; the clients you would do anything to secure, who would make the list? If you then had an opportunity to gain their undivided attention for an afternoon on one of Australia’s finest golf courses, or take them to a business breakfast with 100 other people – which would you choose?

Business Golf Groups’ (BGG) has been successfully providing these opportunities for over eight years. New business partnerships and strategic alliances have been formed by people who met at a BGG event; members have forged much stronger relationships with clients they have entertained as guests.

There are those that might say “I can take my clients and prospects to any course for a game”. This is true; however, BGG provide an experience for you and your guests. At one of the 36 annual Business Golf Group events you (and your guests) have an opportunity to participate in a coaching clinic before the start of play or try out the latest release equipment. You can enjoy a pre-game drink, some lunch on the course and a quick meal at the end of the game.

Best of all, everything is organised and prepared for you at some of Australia’s most exclusive golf clubs; all you had to do was send in a registration form and turn up.

Recent support for BGG events has confirmed the many benefits of mixing business and golf. Over 70+ registrations were received in the first 3 hours from corporate members for the most recent Sydney event; while the upcoming Melbourne event was sold out in a matter of hours with over 140+ registrations received.

South East Qld Business Golf Group (SEQBGG)will be staging their innuagural event at Colonial Golf Course (Gold Coast) on September 15. You have an opportunity to take part in this event before deciding if to take up a membership and participate on a regular basis.

Sarley comes to South East QLD

Marketing consulting agency, Sarley Group, has confirmed their expansion into South East Queensland. Next month the Group will open a new office on the Gold Coast providing new and existing clients with independent, high quality marketing advice. Sarley Group Director Scott Lyons confirmed the move saying it was an exciting time for the Marketing Group.

“Several new and innovative business opportunities have emerged in the first quarter of 2011, and we are looking forward to being a part of bringing them to life.” he said.

The move coincides with the expansion of several clients into the Queensland marketplace and is seen as recognition of what the Gold Coast / Brisbane region has to offer for the business community.

“Like our clients, SEQ was identified some time ago as the first point of call with expansion plans. The expansion of these business groups will have a positive impact on the local community through jobs and additional income” he said.

In addition to the new initiatives, Sarley Group will be working with local SEQ businesses to improve the value and returns gained from their marketing activities; something they have built a strong reputation on over a number of years.

“There is great satisfaction in working with SME’s, knowing you have made a positive contribution to their business growth” Scott said. “We have a diverse client base ranging from sporting goods, finance, telecommunication and mining; through to retail, community and loyalty programs. The timing is perfect for a move into the Queensland marketplace.”
